The Origin of The Potato Salad Lawyer

My journey into estate planning started unexpectedly. My uncle, a seasoned lawyer with a passion for helping families, was ready to retire. He called me one day and asked for my help with his practice. I told him, “I don’t know how to do what you do.” He just smiled and said, “Don’t worry about that. If you can help me, I’ll teach you.”

And teach me, he did. Over the next few months, I learned more about estate planning and probate than I did in three years of law school. What I didn’t expect was how much I would love it. Helping families navigate these deeply personal matters felt meaningful and fulfilling, far more than the litigation work I had been doing.

I decided to focus my career on exclusively on estate planning and probate. In 2018, I opened my own firm to serve families full-time.

But then life threw me a curveball. When my uncle passed away, I learned he had named me as the Executor of his Will. Despite my experience as an estate attorney, I had never been an Executor. Suddenly, I was the one dealing with the frustration of not knowing where to start, what assets he owned, or how to handle his business.

That overwhelming experience shaped the way I run my practice today. My priority is to ensure that your family never has to feel the way I did—confused, unprepared, and overwhelmed.
